The long-awaited opening of a revamped Wheat Capital Road south of Vance Air Force Base was lauded by state and local dignitaries attending Wednesday’s dedication ceremony as a “tremendous project.”
Crowds also gathered on Vance Air Force Base later Wednesday to break ground for the $20 million Armed Forces Reserve Center, which will house both National Guard and reserve units. read more...

People entering and leaving the gates of Vance Air Force Base every day know Robert Steele.
He smiles and greets them as he checks their IDs and allows them access to the base in his job as a gate security guard.
But many people may not know Robert Steele impacts their lives at Vance every day in other ways, much more dramatic and colorful ways.
Steele, who has worked at Vance for nearly 18 months, is an artist who has paintings hanging in various places around base.
A couple of decades ago he painted the mural in the office of the director of operations for the 25th Flying Training Squadron. read more...

The labor dispute at Vance Air Force Base that began June 8 ended June 23 after a collective bargaining agreement was reached.
The three-year agreement was reached between CSC Applied Technologies LLC, three of its sub-contractors — PRI/DJI, DenMar and M1 Support Service — and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 898 that represents approximately 800 members of the contracted civilian work force at Vance AFB. read more...
